About the castle
The Humprecht hunting castle, which stands above Sobotka, is the dominant feature of the region and one of the symbols of the Bohemian Paradise. It was build in the years 1666-1668 for Humprecht Jan Czernin of Chudenice. The main architect was Carlo Lurago from Italy.
Why you should visit Humprecht Castle?
It is an unique building in the Czech Republic. The castle has the interiors of a baroque hunting castle. On the 1st floor there is a 16 meter high eliptical hall with strong acoustics. On the 2nd floor there is an observation balcony. A Turkish crescent was placed on top of the castle in the 19th century as a reminder of Heřman Václav Czernin of Chudenice. He was a major diplomat from the Thirty Years' War
